SENIOR CONSULTANT ECOLOGIST - AUCKLAND

We are looking for a Senior Ecologist for our Auckland office; we are seeking a strong individual who can consolidate and build on ecological consultancy in the Auckland Region in conjunction with existing staff. Key elements of the role include the application of sound ecological principles to a range of projects, an in-depth knowledge of New Zealand vegetation, flora, and fauna, and the ability to identify pragmatic solutions to ecological constraints. In addition, the role will require effective communication with a variety of stakeholders, targeted business development and financial awareness. Joining an established team in Auckland, the successful applicant will also work closely with our wider Company, and our ecologists around NZ. They will require a proven track record in project management (including input to tenders and financial management), field work and technical reporting.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Applicants would be epected to possess sound field skills covering a range of ecosystems, habitats, and taxa, preferably with specialist knowledge of particular species/groups.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant NZ legislation (particularly the RMA), policy and guidance.
- Demonstrable experience n managing mulit-faceted projects.
- Show a body of work experience in a relevant ecological discipline, and very good knowledge of New Zealand vegetation, flora and fauna.
- Skills in ecological restoration work would be very useful.
- Ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of current and potential clients as well as in the Environment Court.
- Goold client management, written and verbal communication skills.
- First-rate project managment skills.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member.
- A post-graduate degree in ecology.
- Further qualifications and membership of an appropriate professional body.
- Good IT skills.
- Full driving licence.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Reporting to Auckland Manager.
- Project management including client liaison, proposal and tender preparation, and financial control, ensuring effective delivery of projects to a high standards.
- Business development, expansion of client base and resource management in the local area.
- Supporting and contributing to national company objectives.
- Proactively managing the flow of information, correspondence and queries.
- Proactively interpreting and taking appropriate actions / decisions.
- Operation at a professional level within the ecological sector.
- Ensuring company processes are adhered to, owning problems and idenfying solutions.

Wildland Consultants Ltd is a progressive consultancy specialising in ecology, biodiversity and restoration planning and implementation, and committed to the care and enhancement of our natural environment.
We are looking for a person to join our Tauranga-based operations team. This person would have technical/hands on skills and expereince in weed identification and control, indigenous planting, good plant identification skills, good communciation skills, the ability to work both in a team and independently, a good level of fitness, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving restoration goals. The work will involve weed identification, reporting, and pest control. There may be a requirement to travel away from home for a week at at time, intermittently.
As our ideal candidate you will have:-
- Weed identification skills
- Weed control skills
- Experience with reporting and liaison with landowners
- A wide breadth of experience from similar roles
- Health and Safety awareness
- A full driver's license plus ability to drive manual vehicles
- Growsafe/Approved Handler
- ATV qualifications
- A current First Aid certificate (desirable but not essential)
