This is a major rehabilitation project, involving large scale site rehabilitation and indigenous revegetation. Intensive pest control is an integral part of the project. Various project elements are subject to ongoing monitoring to measure the success of the project and the techniques used for this ambitious initiative.
Wildland Consultants Ltd was contracted by the Department of Conservation to provide technical advice and input in to the New Zealand Biodiversity Offset Project. This project was funded for three years by Cross Departmental Research Programme (CDRP).
The project included the development of a technical support tool for people developing, assessing or auditing biodiversity offsets. During the development information was compiled on existing reports that contain biodiversity information and/or assessments of significant that could help with identifying biodiversity features and values at a particular site.
