Dr Chris Bycroft

Senior Ecologist and botanist

Rotorua

Chris is a senior ecologist with a PhD in Botany from the University of Otago. He has extensive expertise in botanical and avifauna surveys, including vegetation assessment, plant identification and bird monitoring across diverse New Zealand habitats. He is considered an expert geothermal habitat ecologist and has won numerous awards for his publications on geothermal ecology. He has also undertaken one of New Zealand’s longest-running continuous waterbird studies at Lake Rotoiti and has contributed more than 1,250 checklists to the New Zealand Bird Atlas. He is Chair of the Rotoehu Ecological Trust and is current Treasurer of the New Zealand Ecological Society.
