Ecological Restoration Team Members - Auckland

Albany, Grey Lynn, or Wiri

Wildlands are seeking fulltime Ecological Restoration Team Members for our Auckland branch. This role is to work in small field teams to control pest plants, with some pest animal control and planting work from time to time. You could be based at either Albany, Grey Lynn, or Wiri, as appropriate.

The role is to undertake ecological restoration work which includes pest plant control, planting and pest animal control.

It is essential that you have a willingness to contribute and work in a team, are physically fit, and have a passion for working outdoors in all sorts of weather. The work involves the use of agrichemicals (herbicides), animal toxins (poisons), and traps on a regular basis. Regularly staying away up to week at a time in shared accommodation is an expectation of the role.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Prior experience working in pest plant control, planting and pest animal control is preferred but not essential
  • A positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving conservation goals
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • A good work ethic, efficient and H&S conscious
  • A good level of fitness
  • Full NZ drivers’ licence (preferred)

On the job training and mentoring will be provided, including:

  • Agrichemical handling (mixing and application)

This is a new position within the company, and we are wanting a talented and passionate Ecologist who has specialist knowledge of New Zealand lizards, frogs, vegetation, flora, and fauna in a range of projects to come and join us.

MUST HAVE:

  • A degree in ecology, specialising in herpetofauna or related field.
  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a Herpetologist, preferably with at least 3 years of consultancy experience.
  • Strong background in herpetology, including at least one of the following:
  • Preparation and implementation of Lizard Management Plans for a variety of indigenous lizard species.
  • Presenting expert evidence for council hearings and environment court.
  • Experience using a range of different and novel survey methods and techniques.
  • Sound field skills covering a range of ecosystems, habitats, and taxa.
  • Skills in ecological restoration planning and/or biodiversity offsetting would be very useful.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills – reporting, consenting, stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of current and potential clients.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Further qualifications and membership of an appropriate professional body.
  • Full current New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • 4WD experience.

You will be mentoring and training staff, leading by example, undertake basic reporting and record keeping, ensuring the health and safety of your team, and encouraging and maintaining a positive team culture. There will be opportunities for liaising with client representatives and other stakeholders including the general public and community groups.

We are looking for a Team Leader with a professional work ethic, and at least two years’ restoration experience. It is essential that you are able to communicate effectively to your team/supervisor and manager, have excellent planning and problem-solving skills, and a positive and efficient work ethic. The work requires staff to use agrichemicals (herbicides), vertebrate toxins (poisons), and traps on a regular basis. Appropriate training will be provided for specialist areas of work where required (e.g., Controlled Substance Licence). Regularly staying away up to week at a time in shared, sometimes basic, accommodation is an expectation of the role. If you don’t fully meet the criteria, but you are an awesome field operator, we want to hear from you!

About the Role

The Document Formatting Specialist is responsible for producing consistently formatted, professional reports, tenders, and presentations using the Microsoft 365 suite. The role ensures that all business documents meet organisational standards of accuracy, clarity, and presentation. In addition to formatting duties, the position provides operational support to the Auckland office and contributes to national administrative processes, fostering a collaborative and values‑aligned team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and timely formatting services for reports, tenders, and presentations in line with branding guidelines.
  • Apply and maintain consistent templates, styles, and document standards across all outputs.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Auckland office, including reception duties, meeting minutes, travel bookings, courier arrangements, and supplier invoice processing.
  • Assist project managers with document preparation and related administrative tasks.

  • Support national offices with administrative tasks as required.
